One of the most well known, well liked, and well respected of all American heavy metal bands, Megadeth was formed by former Metallica guitarist, Dave Mustaine and bass player David Ellefson. The duo would go on to recruit a drummer and lead guitarist to create one of the most well known bands on the heavy metal scene. With their hard rhythmic style, Megadeth have continued to innovate over the years and this really shows through their albums as they have refined and some might say, improved their style over the years they have been playing. While their line-up has changed a lot of times over the years, their style has remained fairly consistent owning to the well known vocals that Dave Mustaine produces for each and every album.

The band recorded their first album called “Killing Is My Business… and Business Is Good!”, in 1985 and it was released soon after. Although the album was certainly a lower budget album than a lot of their later offerings, the albums success in the underground heavy metal scene made the larger record labels take notice. With Dave Mustaine wanting to write songs that would be more socially conscious as opposed to what Dave considered a lot of other bands to be writing about, which he described as hedonistic pleasures, the band released their second album, “Peace Sells… but Who’s Buying?”

With lyrics that have been described as more refined than their previous album, the band were setting themselves up for serious long term success with Peace Sells… but Who’s Buying? The album really helped Megadeth to solidify their band image and they managed to gain themselves a huge number of new fans who found themselves attracted to a different style of metal and lyrical content.

The band has found themselves going on hiatus a number of times, as some of the former members battled issues with drug and alcohol addictions. The band informally split up in 2002 and for quite some time it was unknown whether or not the band would ever reform. Luckily for fans though, the band did decide to pick up their instruments again and got back together in 2004 to continue their highly successful touring and to release new albums. Megadeth are still going strong today and continue to tour regularly.
